About Me
Chaplain Davíd Eli Patiño
pronouns: he/they/el
(don't know much about pronouns? ask me!)
I hail from Medellin, Colombia. I currently reside in the Bay Area (California) after serving in New York City as an interfaith chaplain at Bellevue Hospital and doing community building work at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Harlem. I identify as a queer, trans and genderqueer person. I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church and now call the Episcopal Church my home. I am informed by my Roman- and Anglo- Catholic and Protestant Christian upbringing and education and have been trained as an interfaith chaplain.
I hold a B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University, Masters of Arts in Christian Ethics and Theology from Union Theological Seminary, and a Masters of Divinity from Bexley-Seabury Seminary.
My research focuses on postcolonial and decolonial ethics; human rights; nonviolence; peacemaking circles and restorative justice; liberation theology; and queer and transgender experiences of faith, spirituality and religion.
I believe in the practices of authenticity, radical honesty, imagination and curiosity. Things that bring joy to Davíd include all things chocolate, coffee, birds, flowers and dancing!

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and ministers of all faiths (pastors, priests, rabbis, imams and others) into supervised encounter with persons in crisis. Out of an intense involvement with persons in need, and the feedback from peers and teachers, students develop new awareness of themselves as persons and of the needs of those to whom they minister.
Each unit of CPE consists of a minimum of 400 hours: 250-300 hours of spiritual care and 100-150 hours of education and supervision.
